The island of Newfoundland, with its diversity of life and landscape, offers over 9,000 kilometers of coastline to experience. Newfoundland's rich human history spans over 7,000 years of seafaring cultures. You will visit with present day villagers and uncover evidence of past cultures in the many bays and coves along the rugged and sparsely populated shoreline. As you paddle, you have the potential to see ancient icebergs, whales, seals, seabirds, coastal mountains, sea stacks, and caves of volcanic rock. During your service project, you will work on developing or restoring areas important to our host's way of life, helping to preserve the natural, historic, and community resources. Activities could include improving hiking trails, maintaining footbridges, constructing fences or restoring historic structures. With the connections and relationships made during the trip there is great potential for your school to make a lasting connection with a local community, visiting year after year.
