NEWFOUNDLAND

Newfoundland is a glacially scoured island on the very edge of North America. Boasting an ancient history including some of the New World’s oldest sites of human habitation and the first areas of exploration by European traders and explorers, the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador can rightly claim to be the doorway to the New World and the birthplace of North American history.

Off the coast of eastern Newfoundland lies the Grand Banks, a fishing ground that has been one of the world’s primary breadbaskets for over 500 years. Huge populations of fish, whales, seals, and invertebrates call this ocean landscape home.
